Why does reflective writing help a student learn and develop as a better writer? How does it work? Reflective writing gives each writer the ability to critique their own work and fix or change aspects of it. It gives them a chance to understand and acknowledge the purpose behind their written peace. Which can give them a greater understanding of how they write. How the create as a writer and how that affects how they compose. Reflective writing gives each writer a chance to examine and explain themselves and their writing. Leaving opportunity for growth and improvement.

The project itself was more time consuming the the first project which wasn’t a negative thing, but it took a lot more research and preparation. I’m not sure if i was necessarily surprised because i think i did anticipate it. Just not to the actual extent that it actually was. I felt like i needed more time on certain parts. I needed a lot of others people time as well as my own. So it was a challenge to balance and prepare for the final draft. I think time and preparation are vital to the success of any project. Especially a project that requires research to any extent. If i was to give advice or teach someone anything about writing i would teach them to respect their own process and to not compare their abilities to anyone around them. You are the writer and no one else work matters. Although i believe reflection crucial because no one is perfect an neither is there writing. To reflect will always without fail give you the opportunity to grow and improve.
Just today at work i had a co worker of mine complaining about how she was a afraid that her grade would suffer because of a group project she was assigned. She and another group members had to very strong separate opinions. I think these situations can be hard and stressful, but if we step back we may be able to greater understand a second perspective. A set of fresh eyes is not always a bad thing.Of course this is not always a good thing as well. Working together creates greater opportunities for learning, but it does not always create greater projects.
I think revision is not a wide topic. Maybe my thoughts are narrow minded, but as I combed through my classmates comments they seemed to have the similar idea that when you revise something or anything truly you look through it, correct mistakes, and improve whatever you may be revising. Revision is used to create growth for a project. To end with a better result then the original or first draft. Not used simply to correct small grammar errors, but to create a project that flows and portrays exactly what the creator is trying to create.
Do you feel it is important to be a part of a community of believers?
Interviewee: Yes. Why? Interviewee: Because well the Lord tells us it is important to be apart of a community of believers. Why is it important to you specifically in your life? Interviewee: To me? So that i can encourage others and they can encourage me. When did you become a part of the specific community of believers you are in now? Interviewee: Well one thing is to go somewhere new that i hadn't been and the other was i thought they had similar doctrine. Do you feel as that this community has changed at all over the years? Interviewee: Yeah I mean its been like twenty something years so. In what ways do you feel it has changed? Interviewee: Its gotten older i mean all the people. Anything else? Interviewee: No not that i can think of right now. Do you feel that the location of your main meeting point is important? Interviewee: No. When i walk in the room is shaped like a hexagon. It is split providing an isle between two sides of green chairs. The chairs are set up in several rows all facing the back wall of the room. The back wall has a wooden cross on it and below it is a small stage or platform. On the two walls directly connected to the back wall are stained glass windows which portray different bible stories and verses. All six walls walls are a cross between tan and light brown. When i look up the ceiling has a sky light in the shape of a cross and sunbeams shine down onto the floor creating warmth and usually cool room. The floors are a thin layer of carpet and when i sit my chair is stiff. When we sing, we as in the congregation, we all stand together. We stand for prayer as well. There are few actions not done in unison. I see many wondering eyes. During the message, singing, communion, and prayer. People are watching one another. The group of people like to do things as one. No on in particular seems to want to stand out. When greeting one another the people try predict if the other person will hug or shake hands. A failed guess end in awkward laugh and an apology. This group of people is thoughtful of making each other feel as though they belong and are welcome. I see people finding others seats. Passing them bulletins. The people are all there for a common reason and are all there to blend in.

Appearing in many colors as well above them is a white shelf that reaches from both ends of the walls about a foot below the ceiling. This shelf is covered in crowns as well.Above the shelves on the white ceiling hangs a Cinderella chandelier. There are six Cinderella figurines attached to candles. Under the shelves there are two long windows covered in white curtains and pink tulle. There is a bright light shining through into the room and onto a carriage shaped bed frame. On the frame more colorful sashes are hung. The bed is filled with princess pillows. Pillows with Disney princesses on them and under them lays a pink comforter.
I have chosen a community park. It’s sunny outside, with just a tiny chilled breeze and the air is still moist from yesterday's rain. There are mainly adults today. I haven't seen any children except for before the hike down in the parking lot. There are men and women of different races and ages. I see couples and family members. The hills surrounding are full of grass and it’s bright green this winter. They are surrounding this pond in front of me. The hills are filled with rocks to. The rocks are big and from where i'm sitting i can see people climbing on and inside of them.
I suppose anyone is allowed in this space. People with the inability to walk or hike may not be capable of reaching it though. People use this space for both exercise and adventure. They bring their dogs and i even saw someone walking their cat today. The people are dressed in relaxed clothing. Fabric easy to move in. Anyone over dressed How is your position in your community (e.g., youth, leader, worker) influenced by the place where you live, work, relax?
My position in the community. I guess this could be identified in multiple ways. I am nineteen years old and I h ave been a Barista at Starbucks since July of 2017. Are there places/spaces you are not allowed to enter or participate? Why?Do your friends, family, and co-workers have access to different places than you? I am under the legal drinking age so yes places such as bars, clubs, and other places serving alcohol i would not be allowed in. Places my co workers or family members occasionally spend time at. Not something i feel as though i am missing out on. What spaces are private and what spaces are public? I am not involved in a lot of private spaces other than friends and family homes. Perhaps the doctors office would be considered a private space. The yoga classes i attend are private. I found that the project was a lot easier to compose. I wasn’t struggling to put my thoughts on paper. It felt more natural writing this project. I’ve always struggled with feeling confident in my own writing abilities. How well i write and what i write about. I think i often find myself writing about topics more challenging. Topics i am not well researched in. I think it was because the project was based on a more personal topic.
I struggled a lot with citing my work. It took a lot longer than i would have liked it to. I was afraid of accidentally leaving something out. I think with more practice it will come more naturally to me. I think the initial brainstorming has become the most important part. Putting your first thoughts on paper. Unorganized and messy thoughts. I feel i learned most about my writing While brainstorming and when forming the first sentences within each paragraph. It was i not before i started the project. It took a minute and then i started to realize what i was familiar and comfortable with. I felt this project was really excellent for my development as a writer. I think i would teach them about Rhetorical Knowledge and how to apply it to there writing. I had a really hard time grasping it, but i felt knowing how it works has been a huge help to my own writing experience. I did an enormous amount of reflection on my writers project and i felt that the peer reviews were more than helpful. I feel as though the WPA Outcomes value reflection and reflective writing so highly simply because there is always room to improve. Reflection gives you the opportunity to improve your writing abilities and to take a deeper look into the projects you have composed. |
